Welcome to the JISU!

The Justice Institute Students’ Union was formed in 2019 and is a not-for-profit organisation for students and is run by students.

Just like other students’ unions, JISU’s goal is to make the lives of its members (that’s you!) better both on and off-campus. We do this by:

  • Advocating to make post-secondary more affordable and to uphold the rights of students;

  • Providing services that save our members money and support their success;

  • Bringing members together through events to support a strong and healthy student community.

How we operate

  • Governance

    The Students’ Union operates democratically and under structures dictated bylaws, and adopted democratically by members. This section provides access to the Students’ Union’s governing documents and key records:

    If you cannot find something you are looking for or have a question arising from anything you see on this page, simply contact us at organiser@jisu.ca and we will do our best to provide you with the information you seek. For the legal frameworks under which students’ unions operate, please consult:

  • JISU Board of Directors

    The Justice Institute Students’ Union board consists of 9 directors with a wide variety of roles from program representation to institution relations, to putting on events. Collectively this board oversees the goals of the Union and works with the staff person to provide services, advocacy, and events for members. Elections for the Students’ Union often happen in September every year. If you are interested in being part of the board check out the positions you can run for below or email us at info@jisu.ca.

  • Annual General Meetings

    Each year, the Justice Institute Students' Union holds an Annual General Meeting to provide updates from the Board of Directors, vote on updates to the bylaws and receive the annual report and audited financial statements.
