CANDIDATES FOR DIRECTOR OF EXTERNAL RELATIONS

  • The Director of External Relations is responsible for keeping the board of directors informed on any issues arising at JIBC that may impact our members. They are also responsible for ensuring that the JISUs opinions and positions are being articulated to JIBC administration.

  • Hey everyone!

This past year, I’ve had the chance to represent our campus, and honestly, it’s been one of the most meaningful experiences of my time here. For me, it hasn’t just been about sitting in just meetings, it’s been about actually showing up, hearing your stories, and working on the things that impact us every single day.

Whether it was late-night brainstorming with the agendas or looking for student policies, my focus has always been the same: making sure our voices don’t just get heard, but actually spark change.

One moment that really stuck with me was meeting with government ministers to talk about housing, rising costs, and mental health. I pushed until we started seeing steps toward real solutions. That reminded me of what makes our student union so powerful, our ability to build real connections, whether it’s with decision-makers, community groups, or most importantly, with each other.

As your Director of External Relations, I want to take that energy even further. I’ll work on outreach programs that connect students to opportunities, build strong relationships with leaders at every level, and keep things transparent so you know exactly what’s happening behind the scenes.

At the end of the day, the union should feel like home, a place where your concerns matter and turn into action. Together, we can make campus life more supportive, more vibrant, and full of opportunities.

If you’re looking for someone driven, approachable, and ready to fight for students, I’d be honored to be your next Director of External Relations.

  • It would be an honor to help represent this campus at its best to its plethora of accreditation and membership organizations, educational partnerships, associated hiring academies, as well as the institution's internal executive team.

Personally, I've had experience being the front-face of a large biotech research initiative in 2021 that combined various academic, investor, and industry interests. I was involved in fundraising, negotiating with companies and nonprofits for resource access, as well as being the technical representative of the project at all stages to experts in the field. That experience gives me the confidence to become your director of external relations.

I've also had experience with various leadership roles - especially as a Division Director for my local Toastmasters Division (New Westminster to Maple Ridge), and as an ambassador for iGEM (an international biotech education and competition organization).

I would be excited to partake in various projects and initiatives to support the Board of Directors in maintaining academic governance alignment, membership awareness, Union-committee coordination, and a bright and vibrant campus life this year!

  • My name is Angelin John Ragal, and I am a first year student in the Law Enforcement Studies Diploma program. I am running for Director of Events because I want to bring more energy, connection, and creativity to our student community.

I have over 380 hours of volunteering experience in different places, like restaurants and food shelters to school events, art events, and even birthday parties. I also volunteered at the Bear Creek Train during Easter and Halloween and helped with activities that brought people together. These experiences taught me how to stay organized, work with people of all ages, and make events run smoothly.

If elected, I will focus on planning events that are not just well put together but also fun and memorable. I want to create opportunities for students to celebrate, and enjoy their time here. My goal is to make this year super exciting, encourage students to engage with one another, and help everyone feel more comfortable with each other, I want students to explore new things.
