CANDIDATES FOR DIRECTOR OF EXTERNAL RELATIONS

  • The Director of External Relations is responsible for keeping the board of directors informed on any issues arising at JIBC that may impact our members. They are also responsible for ensuring that the JISUs opinions and positions are being articulated to JIBC administration.

  • My name is Jessica Lamb, and I am in my second semester of the Law Enforcement Studies Diploma program at JIBC. During my first semester, I served on the Student Union Board of Directors as one of two New Westminster Campus Representatives. Leadership is a significant part of my life, but this position means much more to me than just that. The connections I have made over the past term have broadened not only my worldview and experiences, but also my sense of self. Being part of the Justice Institute’s Student Union has made me a better version of myself, and I hope to continue to grow and serve the students as we fight to make post-secondary life more affordable and enjoyable for everyone. Should I be elected Director of External Relations, I promise to continue advocating for student services, push for a cap on tuition increases for international students, and I plan to connect with local Members of Parliament to discuss the increasing cost of living and its effects on post-secondary students across BC.

CANDIDATES FOR DIRECTOR OF INTERNAL RELATIONS

  • The Director of Internal Relations works with the Union staff to create an annual budget, keeps the Board of Directors informed on issues regarding the finances of the Union, and ensures members’ money is being spent wisely.

  • Hello, I'm Sorena Khanlou, and I'm excited to run for the position of Director of Internal Relations for the Justice Institute's Student Union.

As a dedicated LESD student planning to enter the BLES program, I thoroughly understand the unique needs of our student body. I have heard your concerns and aspirations and aim to enhance our campus experience in three key areas.

First, while the JIBC primarily serves future first responders, our current gym fails to meet the needs of many students. Therefore, my top priority is the expansion of the fitness gym specifically to your needs. Picture this: additional fitness spaces that cater to more students, which will make passing fitness exams, such as the POPAT, feel like a breeze. This expansion isn't just on my agenda; it's at the very top.

Secondly, I believe in choice. I pledge to improve the course selection process, ensuring students have access to a diverse range of courses and to customize their education.

Lastly, transparency is vital to a thriving student community. I pledge to foster greater openness between you, the students, and the Board of Directors, ensuring your voices are heard in decisions that affect your education. Thank you.

CANDIDATES FOR DIRECTOR OF EVENTS

  • The Director of Events works with the Union staff to plan events for members throughout the year.

  • Integrity, insight and inclusiveness!

Hello, my name is Rishav Sharma and I am currently enrolled in my second semester of Post Baccalaureate Diploma in Law Enforcement Studies Batch Jan ‘23- Dec ‘24. My interests in contesting for this election would be maintaining the finances with integrity, creating a plan for the organisation in various pursuits for the year, helping the fellow students and their awareness in several matters, and preparing better outlines for the upcoming times.

We, the future, get away from the past, in this present, working for a brighter future.

This position impacts the people within the institution, in fostering of relationships among students as well as with teachers, and a contribution of skill-set which I feel I would be able to provide for. I hope that when elected, I would put my best efforts in this position and responsibility.

I would need your support, from heads to heels. Hope the best things and hope is a good thing, as remembered by Mr Red.

Let’s take JIBC and our hard work and talents to the top of mountains.

  • Hi I'm Sahij Grewal and I'm a first year student in the Law enforcement diploma program. I'm running to be the director of events; I'm also running to be your advocate, your organizer, and your partner in creating an incredible atmosphere at each event. I want to contribute my interpersonal and listening abilities, which I believe will be beneficial. Every student will be heard, I want to make sure of that. What I'm watching out for are the students at the Justice Institute of British Columbia. I want to bring academic contests, cultural events, or sporting events. Everyone should be able to find something they like and if there isn’t we can always make something to bring our students together. I will work closely with our school administration, teachers, and students to ensure that events run smoothly and efficiently. Together as a family we can bring fresh ideas and perspectives to the table and make our events truly student-driven. Events should not only be fun but also provide an opportunity for students to connect, build friendships, and create lasting memories. I humbly ask for your support.

CANDIDATES FOR DIRECTOR AT-LARGE

  • The two (2) Directors at Large represent and report the concerns and issues of the overall membership to the board. They also assist the board in organizing and implementing campaigns and events as well as performing other duties as assigned by the board.

  • “When your luck runs out, we run in.” This quote is a favourite of mine and one I often use when someone asks me why I’m studying Emergency and Security Management. It represents my previous professional experience in such fields as Military Medical Aid and later Primary Care Paramedic (civilian). It sums up my years of experience working in the Insurance Industry. Finally, it sums up me as a person, as I am an individual who wants to help those whose luck has run out and hopefully make things in a moment of crisis that seem overwhelming and dark brighter and better than before.

I wish to take on this new role as Director at Large not only for the experience it offers but also to help make a difference within the college to the students of our school. Students who quite possibly one day may be telling people who are having to evacuate, “When your luck runs out, we run in.”

I appreciate your consideration in this matter.

    Best Regards,

    Derek Bailey
